What are you offering to the world? If your name was brought into a conversation, what positive impact would they say you have made? This question seems loaded, actually it is. What is your value? It is almost like asking your worth, do you have a price? Are you so valuable that financial worth is not attached to your name? To smooth the question a bit, quick example, my “financial worth” is what my salary has been determined to be in my field, in my current region. This value question, what you bring to the table - some people have answered it with an ease as if they came out of the womb ready to accomplish a dream set within and some it takes years to tap into their purpose; and most, sadly never.
Pastor Myles Munroe once said: “When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable”. Have we all been abusing each other or more scaringly, ourselves? Because if you do not know your purpose, then WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?
Before we go any further, let me clarify this PURPOSE word real quick. Purpose is the reason you were created, the mission He - God for the believers, has thought of for you to accomplish during your lifetime. There is a reason we have been given intelligence, a mind/brain to use, over other animals. I would not imagine it being created for waste. Your legs were made to walk; hence the serpent is forever exploring earth on his tummy. Your hands were made to touch and grab things; the teeth to masticate so forth and so on. Each of our physical components has a function and has been provided with the properties to achieve that function.
Our purpose is within, and we have been given intelligence, thinking power to execute it. How astute we are about it, now depends on our disposition to even do the work. If I am a little stinker and do not like to take a shower; no matter how bad I smell or other people think I do, it is not a problem to me as solving the issue – by simply taking a shower, is not a desired task. When something is not a goal, a priority, everything good or bad that would have come from it is unknown, thus not sought after, and consequently never experienced. Gotta tap into it.
Your purpose is your gift put to work! Purpose is not work, although you have to work at it. There is a difference. Work is not something you want to do everyday. Lucky are the people who have merged work (what we usually call 9-5), passion/gift (what we have no problem working afterhours on). It is like a Ta-Daa moment!!! Suddenly your eyes are open and the world is seen from more accurate lenses, that 20/20 vision; your life has never made more sense. It is then your life truly begins. Today, I want to highlight my best, living-in-purpose legend, my dear brother, the Black Stallion.
For the past 5 years, it could have been longer, but this is the most distinct time I remembered my brother telling me about opening his own practice. This is a guy who after completion of medical school in Haiti, has gone to 3-4 years of rejection before matching; family moved from Boston, to Brooklyn, to Upstate NY, Texas and then Florida in just a few years. He is the reason I have a whole white board with my goals written in black and white and prayed over nightly. Never told him, but I used to wait until he was out, and go to his office and study his game plan. Fast forward less than decade, my brother will be opening his own Urgent Care in Florida at the end of the month.
He is the best physician I know – I still call him about any patient I have doubt about treatment and he will guide me. He is the best fitness enthusiast I know, I started working out to spend time with him when we were growing up in Haiti and the passion for fitness stuck with me. He is the best Sports Medicine physician I know, merging fitness with medicine with an art only he can. And lastly, the greatest Christian worshipper I will ever know; his unwavering faith is something I never experienced and we do come from a very Christian family. Being a father and a family man in general are your greatest achievements – I will never stop reminding you of that.
They say the average man gets zero praise. I want us to debunk that theory. Speak positivity over the males in your life: husband, father, brother, cousin, co-worker, friend. They deserve to know when they are stepping up, when they are doing a good job. The smallest daily encouragement can make a difference. They need to be reminded their efforts are not in vain. Life gets frustrating too many times; we can lighten the load for the next person, yes the big tall strong man in your life, can use some sweet encouraging words. He needs it more than you think. And he will appreciate it more than he can express.
I want to use my platform to publicly praise my brother. I thank you for never giving up. People said it could not be done, they wonder where you would get the money, the location, the family support, the patients, hell the guts to even put this together – your answer was always, HIM. You have ran with the purpose He has put in you and trusted He would bring all the ingredients to the feast He wanted you to enjoy. And what a feast! Keep being a guiding light for so many, I know you have brighten my world. Thank you for walking in your purpose and being pure Gold.
“The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without purpose”. Dr Myles Munroe
If you do not know your purpose, I urge you to seek it out.
